The little red hen
She found some grains of wheat, she planted them, she cut the wheat, she went to the mill, she baked the bread… But neither the dog nor the cat nor the duck helped her to do all that work, they were so idle and lazy.
“The little red hen” is a popular tale, very widespread in the English-speaking territory, and about subjects very present in our daily life: the value of effort and constancy that always provides good results, opposite to the lack of solidarity and the laziness of who’s used to take advantage of somebody else’s work unfairly. In contrast to the worry of the little red hen for benefiting from a few grains of wheat, the lazy dog, the sleepy cat and the noisy duck don’t seem to help doing the necessary tasks: to sow, to reap, to harvest, to grind, to knead... Besides of being hard, these tasks take up a long time, through the seasons, so patience is not a virtue of all those who only care for the immediate results.
