Orihuela Prize

The International City of Orihuela Prize for Children’s Poetry, organised by the Department of Education of Orihuela City Council and KALANDRAKA Editora since 2008, is one of the most important children’s poetry competitions in the current Latin American literary scene, due to the quality of the publications, complementing the texts with illustrations expressly created for each book of poems; as a result of forming a part of a consolidated collection, with an attractive design and destined for a wide range of readers; and for the promotion of the published works in the world’s most important book fairs. The prize consists of a single payment of € 5000 as an advance on intellectual rights. The purpose of this initiative is to stimulate the creation of poetry for children and to honour the figure of the poet from Orihuela, Miguel Hernández.
