A bigger family

González, Olalla Taeger, Marc Traducción: Lawrence Schimel

Mama is going to have a baby, so Little Rabbit goes to the forest sharing such a good news. His family will be bigger! But, when will the baby be born? Mama always replays: "When I can no longer see my feet".

The arrival of a new brother or sister arouses the curiosity of the main character in ‘A bigger family’, a story for first readers that stands out for its repetitive structure on three levels: the repetition of the formulas with which the little rabbit asks his mother when the birth will take place; the other inhabitants of the forest announcing the good news and passing on his insistent question to them; and how he imagines the games they will share when he is born. Tenderness, solidarity, joy, emotion - and a final surprise - are the feelings that hover over the story, captured in illustrations with defined strokes, irregular, schematic lines and watercolours in soft tones on a white background. The dichotomy between the full-colour scenes and other monochrome scenes where the dreams and desires of the one who is preparing to be the older brother are evident.
