About Us

KALANDRAKA first appeared on April 2nd 1998 –International Children's Book Day–with the motto "Books For Dreaming" and the aim of offering works of the best aesthetic and literary quality. Initially publishing in Galician, with a firm commitment to the linguistic standardisation of the language, KALANDRAKA is a multilingual project that currently publishes in Spanish, Galician, Catalan, Basque, Portuguese, Italian and English.

Self-made picture books, adaptations of traditional tales, new versions of classics, books for babies, easy-to-read books, book/CD sets, poetry, and art are the main lines of work that comprise a lively, diverse catalogue. With the addition of the label FAKTORÍA K DE LIBROS, the range of publications also includes literary fiction, essays, scientific papers and one-off publications.

As a result of this collective effort, KALANDRAKA has received numerous accolades, from the 1st National Illustration Award 1999 won by the artist Óscar Villán for "The Little White Rabbit," through to the National Award for Best Cultural Editorial Work 2012, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Culture.

This dedication to multiculturalism, equality in education, tolerance, and respect towards the environment, combined with a commitment to encourage reading and to stimulate imagination and curiosity, gave rise to the incentive to continue making books that captivate, motivate, amuse, and last over time.
